Building Leadership from Within: A Transformative Journey

A year ago, I started a big change in my company to create leaders from the people already working with us. This was a new way of doing things compared to before. Let me share this story with you.

In the past, I thought the best way to get good leaders for our team was to bring in experts from outside. Our company has many smart people who are great with technical work, but they didn't seem interested in managing others. I believed that outsiders with management experience could help us. But, this approach didn't work out as I hoped. These outside leaders were good, but they brought different ways of working that didn't fit well with us. They tried their best, but soon problems started to show up, and they didn't stay long with us. At that time, I also didn't have enough time to manage things well.

Seeing these issues, I decided to try something different a year ago. I chose to help our own people become great leaders. I started a training program to teach them about leadership and how to manage a team. This idea was about giving a chance to the people who already work with us to grow and take on bigger roles.

The training program consists of instructor-led courses covering various areas of company management, working with people throughout the entire lifecycle with a strong focus on core people skills and understanding emotions. It will offer further insights into negotiation, time management, and how to nurture effectiveness. This is not just a flow of theoretical knowledge; everything we learned was implemented in our processes and organization, adjusted where necessary to align with our culture and values.

This new approach has been a big success. Now, people in our company can see that they have a chance to grow and become leaders. This has made everyone feel more positive and eager to work. The new leaders know our company very well because they have been with us for a long time. They understand our work, our team, and our challenges. This means they can lead in a way that makes sense for us and help everyone do their best.

Looking back at this journey, I learned a few important things:

First, the best leaders might already be with us, we just need to help them grow.
Second, leaders need to fit well with our company's culture to be successful.
And last, teaching our people to be leaders is a good investment for our company's future.

In the end, choosing to develop leaders from within our company has been a great decision. It has not only made our team stronger but also brought us closer together. This story shows that believing in our people and supporting them can lead to great things.
